We'll get back to recipes soon, but we wanted to take a quick break to share a few pictures from our summer vacation to Juneau, Alaska! My sister and her husband invited us to stay in their updated 1970's A-frame and the trip was absolute *magic*.
We spied whales, panned for gold, hiked mountains, and visited a glacier. For food, we kept things simple with salads and beach-side grilling (and sunset s'mores)! Below are a few photos and highlights from our trip.
Have you been to (or are from) Alaska? Or, what adventures do you have planned this summer? Let us know in the comments!

Juneau is the land of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Native people. We are grateful to be able to spend time here.
We visited my sister and her husband and his family (he grew up in Juneau) - so it's nice to have a family connection. We also met up with Alex's brother and family & our niece & nephew.
Juneau is not accessible by road: only boat or plane! It's a very long trip from Indianapolis and a 4 hour time difference so it was pretty intense, but the kiddos did great. It was Britta's first plane ride!
We went whale watching and saw lots of humpbacks, went fishing (Larson and I both caught a *tiny" salmon), paddle boarded, went dog sledding at the dogs' summer camp, and hiked a bunch in the beautiful rainforests. And had lots of family cookouts.
Some of our favorite parks: Point Louisa, Eagle Beach, and Auke Rec.
Alex took these amazing photos (stunning, right?). He also brought his drone so he got some cool video shots! Here’s a video we shared on Instagram.
We stayed with my sister in her beautiful A frame home! But there are lots of great Airbnb's there to stay if you visit.
We recommend visiting Juneau vs going on an Alaskan cruise because you really get to experience the majesty of the place! Let us know if you have questions.
I've lived in Juneau for more than 50 years. It is a place that invites superlatives. Even in winter! I love to see it through the eyes of others like you and your family--makes me appreciate it more. For many reasons, Juneau is a place where creative people flourish and where people who don't consider themselves creative become creative. Something in the water, I guess...
Beautiful pics and video of an amazing landscape and a precious family!
